Unique program gives athletes second career

Stockholm School of Economics IFL Executive Education is partnering the Johan Cruyff Institute in Stockholm to launch their Management Diploma for Athletes (MDA).

It is a 40 day general management program, which prepares active and former sportsmen and women for a switch in their career. The main target group is former and active sportsmen and women, as well as leaders and administrative staff in sport.

Peter Hägglund, CEO for Stockholm School of Economics IFL Executive Education sees the advantages for both the business world and the people who participate in the program:
“The MDA program transitions star performance in the sporting arena to the business world in a way that transcends normal borders. It is going to revitalize companies with new, driven leaders from the world of sport.”

“We offer a faster route to a second career. One which is customized and in which a sporting pedigree is an important component,” says Henrik Bergqvist, manager for the Cruyff Institute Stockholm.

Johan Cruyff, one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen, started the Johan Cruyff Institute for Sport Studies ten years ago and this successful business is now represented in Holland, Spain and Mexico. Johan Cruyff is pleased with the results and proud that his vision is now expanding into the Swedish market:

“My experience is that Sweden takes sport seriously. Swedish sportsmen and women have always been excellent role models, who have reached their successes through hard work. If you add to their qualities a better education, they will be excellent leaders within the sporting world or business.”
