She is studying bosses who tweet
Lena Lid Falkman is a researcher and lecturer at the Stockholm School of Economics. She is currently running two research projects on leadership and rhetoric through technology.
“We need more research on social media. We have loads of statistics on how many people are on Facebook, but we don’t know enough about how that influences organizations, companies, and individuals,” Lena Lid Falkman tells Internetworld.
Participating in the public discussion of such topics is one of Lena’s three duties as a researcher at SSE. The other two duties are to do research and to teach and educate. She is currently running two research projects on leadership and rhetoric through technology, focusing on social media.
“I analyze what managers who blog and tweet write about and how that can alter their communication with colleagues, competitors, and even customers. An interesting aspect is the demarcation between what’s public, private, and professional,” she says.
Lena’s new book, which is about virtual meetings, includes an example of this. A non-profit organization used the Internet to successfully recruit new hires from outside its home base. Not only did the organization attract applicants from all over the country, but the method proved flexible and cost-effective.
